Gutter Cleaning in Southern Ohio
Clogged gutters aren’t just an eyesore — they’re quietly causing damage to your foundation, fascia boards, and landscaping every time it rains. We clear them by hand, flush every downspout, and leave them flowing freely.
The Hidden Damage of Overflowing Gutters
When gutters fill with leaves, debris, and sediment, rainwater has nowhere to go. It overflows — and that overflow falls exactly where it causes the most damage: directly against your foundation, down your fascia boards, behind siding, and into landscaping beds.
Over time, water pooling at the foundation can cause settlement cracking, basement moisture intrusion, and erosion around footings. Fascia boards soaked repeatedly with water rot from the inside out. The damage from consistently overflowing gutters often costs thousands to repair — far more than the cost of annual cleaning.
Southern Ohio gets significant rainfall, especially in spring. Gutters clogged from fall leaves often go through the entire wet season overflowing before homeowners realize there’s a problem.
Water pooling at the base of your home works into foundation cracks and causes settling over time.
Overflowing water saturates the wooden fascia boards behind the gutter, causing accelerated rot and structural damage.
Overflow concentrated near the foundation is one of the leading causes of wet basements and crawl space moisture.
Heavy overflow volume falls like a waterfall onto beds and lawn, washing away mulch, eroding soil, and killing plants.
Hand-Clearing, Not Just Blowing
We remove all leaves, sticks, seedlings, and packed sediment by hand. Leaf blowers push debris around and leave compacted material behind — hands get everything out.
We run water through every downspout to confirm free flow all the way to the exit point. Clogs in downspout elbows are cleared before we leave.
If we notice gutters that are sagging, pulling away from the fascia, or showing signs of damage during the clean, we’ll let you know so you can address it before it becomes a bigger problem.
Add-On: Gutter Brightening
The dark “tiger striping” on the outside face of gutters is an oxidation staining called “tiger striping.” It doesn’t rinse off with water — it requires a specialized gutter brightener applied by hand and wiped to remove. When combined with a full exterior house wash or as a standalone service, gutter brightening restores your gutters to their original white or painted finish. Ask about adding this when you schedule.
Keeping Your Gutters Working Year-Round
After the last leaves drop — typically November in southern Ohio — is the most important time for gutter cleaning. This clears them heading into the wet and freeze-thaw cycles of winter and early spring.
Spring brings heavy rain just as trees are depositing pollen and seed pods. Homes with many overhanging trees often benefit from a second cleaning in April or May to clear spring debris before summer storms.
Always clean gutters before a roof replacement (installers will damage clogged gutters) and after (to remove roofing debris). Also after any major construction or landscaping near the home.
